«Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you» (Deuteronomy 28: 10).
Chapter 28 of Deuteronomy registers blessings and curses. «God would present before them the claims of His law and enjoin upon them obedience as the condition of prosperity.»—Patriarchs and Prophets, ch. 42, p. 463. Moses presented the promises and the threats, beginning with the condition: «If you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God» (Deuteronomy 28:1). Then he listed the blessings in fourteen verses. These blessing include both private and national life, the protection and health of their children, daily sustenance, prosperity in their work, victory over their enemies, material abundance, success in all their efforts, and leadership over others. The promises were presented first because God is more interested in blessing you than in reproaching you. Your prosperity gladdens the heart of our heavenly Father.
Spiritual and material prosperity is a divine idea with an evangelizing purpose: for others to see that your blessings are because of your faithfulness to God, so that they will respect you and learn to fear God. Why do things our own way and not God’s way, when obedience assures us of victory? We were created to experience peace and happiness. God says, «For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope» (Jeremiah 29:11).
God wants you to prosper, and the most direct route to achieve that is to surrender your will completely to His. His plan for you is abundant life: «The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly» (John 10:10), Why not experience an abundant life, full of peace in our heart?
God is a gentleman; He will not impose anything on you, not even His blessings. A life full of great promises awaits you. The Lord is waiting patiently for your invitation to make you the owner of promises that exceed your imagination: a happy present and a happy future.
