Devotion for Adults 2022 Para el: 21 mayo
«By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin» (Hebrews 11 :24, 25).
“TAKE THIS BABY AND NURSE HIM FOR ME, AND I WILL PAY YOU.» Do you remember who said these words?
It was Pharaoh’s daughter. She had gone to the river with her attendants to bathe, when she saw a basket gently moving on the banks of the Nile. She sent one of her attendants to look for her, and surprise! When she opened it, she saw a beautiful crying child inside.
Then, at the precise moment, Miriam, the baby’s older sister, appears on the scene. She asks the princess if she would like her to look for a Hebrew woman to nurse him, and the princess says yes! At that very moment you could say that one of the most glorious pages in history began to be written. Because with the speed of an arrow, Miriam goes in search of Jochebed to «do the job»!
«Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.» The princess thought she was simply hiring an employee, but other ideas were passing through Jochebed’s mind. She would raise the child, for God! From that moment on, she would be the dominant influence in Moses’s life. She was a slave, without studies, but she had faith that God would use her child to bless His people and humanity. And although she did not live to see the Exodus, Jochebed will receive her reward from God, with eternal life. How great will her joy be as she is reunited with her son in the heavenly homeland!
How long was Moses under her influence? We do not know, but it must have been enough time for the child to learn to fear God more than Pharaoh: «By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin. »
If you are a mother, or expect to be, remember that the same God who blessed Jochebed, longs to bless you today: «He who said, ‘Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not,’ still invites the mothers to lead up their little ones to be blessed by Him. Even the babe in its mother’s’ arms may dwell as under the shadow Of the Almighty through the faith of the praying mother.»—The Desire of Ages, ch. 56, p. 512.
Remember also that even if you do not see in this life the fruits of your efforts, your reward will be received in the kingdom of heaven. You can’t imagine how great that reward will be!
Thank You, heavenly Father, for our mothers, and for what they mean to mankind.
Grant them Your blessing today, and give us the joy of seeing them in the heavenly homeland.
