GOD OF THE IMPOSSIBLE
«My God shall supply all your need» (Philippians 4: 19).
PASTOR SERGEI PETROVICH Was at home when his wife arrived bringing confidential information: church authorities would secretly gather somewhere in Cahul, Moldova, to elect the next president of the association. Why so much secrecy? Because at the time the Committee for State Security (the KGB) made sure no one held evening meetings.
With the information provided to him by his wife, Pastor Petrovich managed to get to the secret meeting place. Then he returned home, not knowing that his movements were being observed. That night, as he slept, Petrovich awoke to knocking on his door. It was KGB officers, with an arrest warrant. He was taken to the KGB operations center where, for hours, he was interrogated. They insisted that the pastor tell them the names of those who were at the meeting. Since he didn’t speak, he was whipped with a rubber hose. Then they decided to send him to Briceni, the maximum security prison. There the officer in charge called him a criminal, mocked God, and sent him to an isolation cell, without food.
«Preacher, I hope you like your stay!» the officer yelled to him. «You’ll have plenty of time to be with your God in your cell. We’ll see if He can feed you!» When the pastor was alone in his cell, he repeated the words of today’s text: «My God shall supply all your need. » Early the next morning, the pastor heard a sound coming from the window. As much as he could, he peeked out and, to his surprise, found some bread! God had performed a miracle! After he had pulled himself together, he decided to save it to show it to the unbeliever officer who had mocked his faith. But the miracles wouldn’t end there. Over the next few days, he would hear the same sound at the window and then find some Russian bread. At last, the officer showed up at his cell. In mockery, he asked Petrovich if his God had fed him. When the pastor showed him the pieces of bread, the man’s wrath caught fire. Grabbing him by the chest, he asked him who had brought him bread. Just then, the same sound was heard at the window When the officer looked up, there was a black cat holding a piece of bread in its mouth.
«Blessed be God!» Pastor Petrovich exclaimed.
«I can’t believe it!» The astonished officer said. «I’ve been feeding you myself! That’s my daughter’s cat! And this is the bread my wife makes!»
Then he added, «I’ve never seen anything like it. Your God exists and from now on, He will also be my God!
God of the impossible, today I praise You because You are faithful to Your promises, and because of how much You love each of Your children.
