«And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance»(Hebrews 9:15).
THE BIBLE points out the inadequacies of the first covenant because it was symbolic, earthly, and temporary. In contrast, the sufficiency of the new covenant stands out because it is complete, with Christ present. It is not symbolic, but real and incarnate as High Priest of the good things to come (Heb. 9:11;10:1). It is not earthly, but heavenly because it was not made out of hands (8:2). It is not established with the blood of others, but with His own blood (9:12). It is not only able to purify the flesh, but also the conscience (9:14), granting access to the undeserved blessings of the covenant.
Covenants in ancient times included a clause stating that transgressors of the covenant would be punished with bloodshed. Christ’s death as substitute for the offender redeems the repentant sinner from death and inaugurates the second covenant.
Perhaps you have heard of Li Wenliang, an ophthalmologist at Wuhan Central Hospital who was the first to warn about COVID-19, which has brought about so many painful consequences to all humankind.
In December 2019, after caring for patients with acute respiratory symptoms, he concluded that it was a more aggressive version of a virus that had already killed more than 700 people at the start of this millennium. A few weeks later, Li started coughing and running a fever. He was hospitalized. From his hospital bed he shared his last words on social media: «If you had listened to my message and shared the information, things would have gone much better.»
Li died on February 7, 2019, leaving behind an expectant wife and a five-year-old son. He was thirty four years old.
This is the shocking story of an ophthalmologist who saw the danger that no one else saw and tried to save people, when there was still hope of stopping the outbreak The Chinese authorities recognized his discovery and considered him a hero who died to open the eyes of the world to what was to come.
From the heavenly sanctuary, Christ, who occupied our place on the cross as transgressors, offers us His services as a mediator. He sees what no one else sees. The destruction of those infected by the sin virus, as well as the restoration and life of those who undergo treatment.
It is urgent that we hear His voice and share the information!
