WHAT DOES THE LAYING ON HANDS MEAN?

Underline the correct answer

a. Putting your hands over someone

b. Putting your hands on something

c. Putting your hands on other hands

Has anyone ever put their hands on your head and prayed for you?

This custom has been going on for a long time in order to ask for the  blessing of God over the person on whom the hands are laid.

In the Bible, parents also laid hands on their children to ask for God’s blessing on them, as Jacob did on his grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh.

Jesus also laid His hands on the children to bless them and on the sick to cure them.

The apostle Paul laid hands on a young man named Timothy as he prepared to perform a special task or mission. Timothy was like a son to Paul. He accompanied him and helped him take care of the members of the churches, such as that of Ephesus and Corinth.

Timothy had many talents, so he and other New Testament Christians had laid hands on them, consecrating them as elders, deacons, and pastors.

Do you know why the pastor and the elders lay hands on someone? Currently, the pastor and the elders of the church lay hands on someone  to ask the Holy Spirit to help that person perform a special role in the church.

Even if you’re not yet an adult, you can help as young Timothy did.

How would you like to serve in the church? Write your answer in your Prayer Journal and ask God to bless you in that task.
