«When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You In the night watches. Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice” (Psalm 63.6, 7).
SLEEPING is a marvelous benefit that, unfortunately, many women cannot enjoy. Lack of sleep makes them feel tired during the day; it may them irritable and hinders their concentration.
Insomnia or lack of sleep at night is related to some diseases of physical origin, but it also has a negative impact on mental health. Excessive worry generates anxiety, and this prevents reaching the state of relaxation necessary for a restful sleep. Some studies indicate that during sleep, the body repairs itself, and during the day, productivity increases, physical performance and concentration improve. When this restful sleep is missing, everything is affected.
Being worried when we should be sleeping is frequent in many women.
This makes us toss and turn in bed, think and think again, looking for answers and not finding them, which creates a vicious circle that’s difficult to reverse. The key to calm, deep, and refreshing sleep is found in this simple prayer: «I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8). The sequence presented by this Psalm is extraordinary:
When it is time to sleep, don’t count sheep; count the blessings you have received from God during the day.
