And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free» (John 8:32).
FREEDOM is a gift we receive by creation; it’s manifested in every individual through our capacity to make decisions on our own and to make choices based on our ohm ethical, moral, and spiritual values. Despite this wonderful freedom the Lord gave us, millions of people live imprisoned without ever having stepped into a jail. They are captive of their own minds; they suffer emotional kidnapping that keeps them from enjoying a complete dynamic freedom.
Living as prisoners of defeatist thoughts, trapped by resentment or re- morse from the past, is something that paralyses us, discourages us, and generates pain and bitterness, to the point that we can end up triggering mental and physical illnesses. Emotions, thoughts, and feelings are generated in the mind; so, in order to enjoy true freedom, we must put our minds under God’s command. The first step is to be aware of the truth that’s found in His Word, especially the truth of salvation in Christ Jesus because, as we know, truth is what will set us free.
When we live tied up to the past, we usually keep record of the bad experiences we have suffered; by doing so, we run the risk of taking pleasure in self-victimization and looking down on God’s care with the argument that He has forgotten us.
These are practices that promote mental slavery. Bound in memories, bad decisions, and traumatic experiences, we don’t allow God to be our Liberator and Savior.
Many who seek relief for their sick minds frequently visit psychologists’ and psychiatrists’ offices, and this is fine if we feel that our capacity of judgment has decreased. Nevertheless, it is so encouraging to understand that God, the Creator of life and the Sustainer of our minds, can break the chains that keep us tied to a miserable existence.
The only condition we need to fulfill to recover that lost freedom, is to get rid of our internal discourse of self-sufficiency, abandon the arguments by which we justify ourselves, and allow our thoughts of anxiety, resentment, and bitterness to change little by little until we experience the wonderful feeling of being free in Christ.
Let us not forget that “we have the mind of Christ» (1 Corinthians 2:16). gin today, by kneeling down and telling God about your pain!
