«This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it» (Psalm 118:24).
STARTING THE DAY is a difficult task for many people, for different reasons. The haste of things to do seems to be the first thought many have upon waking up. The tasks, relentlessly, wake us up, and we rarely take the time to enjoy the meaning of a new day. Consequently, we feel mentally tired before we even start the activities of the day.
The clock rules our day and pushes us to hurry. The to-do list does not wait and is the cruel executioner that stands between the pleasure of a beautiful sunrise and us. Suddenly, almost imperceptibly, the noises of the street replace that silence in which we could hear nature praise the Creator. The haste of our daily tasks makes us forget that the best Companion in our daily work is Jesus, the constant demands of others prevent us from asking God for His care, protection, and direction for what we are going to do. Consequently, we become prey to the anxiety that such a rigid routine causes to rise in us without the protective presence of God.
As you open your eyes in the morning, observe your surroundings and thank God for your home, your family, your bed, and the rest He has allowed you to have during the night. «Listen» to the silence of the dawn and connect with the Creator, who speaks in silence. Thank the Lord for the air that enters your lungs; for the smells and colors of nature that reach your brain through your senses; for the softness of your blankets; for the opportunities and experiences that the day will offer you and that will undoubtedly be for your personal growth. In the morning, sing, pray, laugh, love, share, enjoy, and value the day God gives you.
Earthly mornings should make us remember and yearn for the eternal dawn we will enjoy when we see our God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of life coming in glory and majesty. Tune your voice and soul in singing the Christian’s song: «The golden morning is fast approaching; Jesus soon will come to take his faithful and happy children to their promised home. O, we see the gleams of the golden morning piercing thro’ this night of gloom! O, see the gleams of the golden morning that will burst the tomb» (Seventh day Adventist Hymnal, # 205).
