WHAT’S THE POINT OF FAILURE?
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
THE WORD «FAILURE» has a markedly negative connotation. We say dismissively that someone is «a failure» when their expectations or life projects did not reach the desired outcome. However, some motivational authors claim that failure may not be so, as it becomes an incentive for personal development and growth if we know how to channel it properly.
When facing «failure,» we always have two options: to take it as a permanent defeat or to interpret it as a mobilizing agent of new energy, which drives us from the depths to try again, but this time trying to avoid the mistakes made in the previous attempt. When I think of Thomas Edison’s more than a thousand attempts to invent the modern electric light bulb, I’m simply amazed. When questioned about these thousand «failures,» he clarified, «No, of course I didn’t fail a thousand times, but I discovered a thousand different ways of how a light bulb is not made.»
As a young woman who has placed her trust in the hands of God, you are not automatically exempt from failure (which isn’t the same as being defeated). We must remember that failure is a master class. The defeat perceived as such undermines your spirit by leading you to inaction; but a small «failure,» perceived as a step toward the goal, is nothing more or less than a valuable learning step that life provides for you.
Change your perception when you face failure:
- It does not mean that you have achieved nothing; it means you’ve learned something.
- It does not mean you could not succeed; it means you were willing to follow the method of trial and error.
- It does not mean you don’t know; it means you have to do it again but differently.
- It does not mean that you will never reach that goal; it means you have to change the way you can reach it.
- It does not mean you’re inferior; it means you are not perfect.
Satan will try to make you believe that you are a failure and that God is oblivious to your needs. He may also try to show you an easy way to reach your life goals and achieve your projects. Don’t get «stuck» in those thoughts; look realistically at your opportunities and try again, earnestly seeking divine guidance.
