lt is number 309 of the Adventist Hymnal. If you don’t know it, I invite you to look for it in the Hymnal or on the Internet and read it.
What do you think the words of this hymn mean? Think about it for a moment
You probably don’t like surrendering, which is giving up, when you’re playing a game or running in a race. Who likes to give up? Normally, everyone likes to win and to do so without anyone’s help. But I am going to tell you a secret: if you surrender to Jesus and give your life to Him, you will succeed in everything you set out to do in life.
That is what consecration is all about: recognizing that you alone cannot change your mind or your heart, nor can you win over evil. Only with the help of the Holy Spirit can you succeed and change all your character flaws.
ln the Bible, «to consecrate» means «to make holy» or «to make perfect.» God uses this word for the Sabbath, to make it special and set it apart from other days. The Sabbath is a day to remember the Creator. The temple priests were also consecrated to perform special tasks in the temple to praise God.
What would you do if an angel visited you with a special message? Most likely you would be amazed, and might doubt whether that being is really a messenger of God or not.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, did not hesitate for a moment. When the angel Gabriel told her that she was going to have a baby that would be called Jesus, she said, «May everything you have said about me come true» (you can find it in Luke 1:38). Mary was willing to do the will of God.
Mary was a very special woman who consecrated her life to God to conceive and educate the Savior of the world.
