«Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified» (Romans 8:30).
HONDURAS WAS GOING through a serious social crisis in 2010 when a dengue fever epidemic broke. Hospitals and health centers in the whole country were filled with affected patients, and the stress because of it was widespread. It was just at this time, perhaps the worst of them all, that a young Adventist Honduran woman decided to travel from the United States to speak to her father. She felt the strong conviction that she had to ask him to give himself to the Lord and accept Christ through baptism. When she gave that message to her father, he was very clear: «I don’t want to do that. I am not going to surrender my life to the Lord.»
«You will give your life to the Lord the day I die,» was her automatic answer. Those words sunk deeply into the heart of that father, who loved his daughter although he was not ready to give his life to God.
A few days after speaking with her father, the young woman began to feel unwell and ended up sick in bed. It seemed obvious that she had dengue fever, but they had to wait to see whether it was hemorrhagic or not. finally confirmed the bad news: a mosquito bite had caused hemorrhagic dengue fever. Her future faded away.
On her death bed, the young woman asked her husband whether he was ready to meet Jesus and urged him to get ready. Without time to do anything more, the young woman died. Her father immediately accepted Christ and gave himself to Him in baptism, just as his daughter had said he would. He began a new life; she, on the other hand, ended this physical life, but she is waiting for another later on. At the moment, she is sleeping, but the resurrection day is getting closer.
We read in the Holy Scriptures: «He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him» (John 3:36).»Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life» (John 5:24). Let us not lose eternal life.
