«My son, if you receive my words and keep my commandments in your mind» (Proverbs 2: 1)
During my years of upper secondary education (pre-university), I met a professor who took a great liking to me for my penchant for literature. He was very observant, so he soon realized that I was a Christian. From that moment on he began to bombard me with questions about the Bible. He knew the scriptures very well and knew where to strike. Later I learned that during his childhood he had attended a Christian church. His sharp questions puzzled me deeply. He did not know how to respond or who to turn to. It was then that I made one of the most important decisions of my life: I begged God to help me understand his Word. If the Bible had a message especially for me, I wanted to know it! What was the point of sitting down to listen to a sermon every week if I couldn’t understand what God was trying to tell me through His Word? If God was real, I had to find him!
This is how a whole journey of studying the Bible began in my life. I was determined to understand God’s Word and spend my best years assimilating its teachings. Since then, I have spent a lot of time reading the scriptures in different versions. His study of the divine will: If you want to understand the Bible, you must teach it to those who do not know it.
During the Middle Ages, the clergy convinced society that it was not possible to understand the Bible, so a whole magisterium was required to explain its content. To this day, many people like to keep the teachings of the Bible a mystery. Even in Christian environments, there are also all kinds of folkloric characters that sometimes claim to have exclusive knowledge of biblical knowledge. In their obsessive search for power, recognition and dominion over the rest of the believers, they affirm that only they possess the light that leads to eternal life. But that is completely false. The Word of God is a revelation with a particular message for each human being willing to know it sincerely (Revelation 1: 3). On this day I invite you to pray fervently to God to help you understand his Word and discover what he has especially for you. Nothing will give you greater satisfaction than knowing the divine will.
