Jesus said,] ‘You are the light of the world. . .. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven’ » (Matthew 5:14, 16).
On the farthermost southwest corner of England stands a lighthouse with a rather strange name. The Lizard Light can send a beam twenty miles out to sea and keeps passing ships from running aground on the deadly rocks at its base.
One night a frightening message sounded throughout the lighthouse. «Fire! Fire!» Sure enough, the building housing the fuel supply that ran the generators that kept the light glowing was on fire. Those manning the facility knew that any second the whole thing could blow up in their faces. The fire department was five miles away and would never reach them in time.
«We can run or we can stay and fight the fire,» Mr. Stephens, the lighthouse keeper, stated to his staff. If they left, the fire would blow up everything, including the lighthouse that was, even then, sending its beam across the waves. But if they stayed, each and every person risked losing their own life.
Everyone stayed and fought the fire. Fortunately, they got it out in time.
As you try to warn others about sin, Satan loves to start fires around you. He’s got temptations and confusing situations galore just waiting to wreck your day.
Do you run, leaving your light to fade? Or do you fight the fires in order to keep your saving beam of love shining bright? It’s your light. And it’s your choice.
