«Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven» (Matthew 18:19).
IT WAS LESS than a month before our missionary group, Boots for Jesus, was to leave again to bring the message of salvation to the indigenous people of Alto Quetzal and other communities of the great Chirripo mountain, in Costa Rica. We needed a lot of money, because we had to pay the costs of getting there, renting electric generators, buying medicines and food, etc. However, our bank account did not have sufficient funds to cover all those expenses. We then decided to divide ourselves into prayer groups to ask the Lord to supply what we could not afford. So the more than twenty missionary volunteers who made up Boots for Jesus took turns in such a way that there was always someone who rose early in the morning to pray for every material need required for the preaching of the gospel in that place.
Every day we prayed to our heavenly Father for each of the specific needs we had, and every day we kept getting wonderful news. First, we received several phone calls from unknown doctors, who donated medicines generously. And instead of sending us money to rent several electric generators, God sent us a single generator from the United States, but of such good quality, that we were able to have light in abundance throughout the campaign. What a great blessing; what a clear answer to the prayers of a group of faithful believers in Christ.
We read in Prayer, on page 71: «Our prayers are to be as earnest and persistent as was the petition of the needy friend who asked for the loaves at mid night. The more earnestly and steadfastly we ask, the closer will be our spiritual union with Christ. We shall receive increased blessings because we have increased faith.
«Our part is to pray and believe. Watch unto prayer. Watch, and co-operate with the prayer-hearing God. Bear in mind that ‘we are labourers together with God’ (1 Corinthians 3:9). Speak and act in harmony with your prayers.» That is the call I make to you this morning: pray and believe, and cooperate with the God who hears your prayer. Amen.
