A: Seventh-day Adventists believe that God created life on the earth about 6,000 years ago. We know, according to the biblical record, that Christ was born about 2,000 years ago, and that Abraham was born about 2,000 years before the birth of Christ. Going back to Adam another 2,000 years before Abraham makes it about 6,000 years ago that God brought Adam and Eve into being.
People have different beliefs about the actual time period in which the creation of the world took place. Some people believe that it happened over a period of thousands or millions of years. But the Bible seems clear that God made the world in six literal days (The Sabbath would certainly seem less meaningful if Creation took place over a long period of time.)
When we get to heaven we’ll have the opportunity to ask God all our unanswered questions about the wonders of creation. For example, Ellen White has written that in heaven the student of science will be able to “read the records of creation” (Education, p. 303)
