it’s a tuna, No, not the fish.
Tuna is the name of the fruit of the prickly pear cactus.
Most people think of cacti as desert plants, But some of their almost 2,000 species grow as far north as Ontario and northern Europe They live in such states as Massachusetts and Minnesota—surviving bitter winters. Others thrive in the subtropical climate of Florida Cactus plants are more versatile than most people know, and have unique features that help them survives.
it didn’t take explorers of America long to discover that cattle ate prickly pear cactus pads, called nopals. As long as the spines were burned off, the cattle liked them.
One day someone cut off some nopals, shipped them to Australia, and transplanted them into arid Australian soil in which other food would not grow. Then they discovered that too many nopals made the cattle unhealthy.
But by the time ranchers realized this. it was too late, The fast-growing prickly pear cactus had taken over the countryside. Efforts to control the rampant growth failed until they discovered an insect to do the job. The little creatures burrowed holes all over the cactus stems until enough plants died to keep them under control.
God’s nature thrives on balance, 50 when human beings move plants and animals from their native habitats to different parts of the world, trouble usually follows. That’s why you and l have such a hard time with sickness and stress. We were created to live in heaven!
