«For if God did not spare the angels who sinned …and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah…and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly» (2 Peter 2:4-6).
Through Scriptures, God revealed Himself to human beings as an extremely merciful Being who is ready to forgive transgression, iniquity and sin. God’s mercy was clearly seen in the life of Jesus and it was manifested even much more deeply in His death. However, there are specific situations in which God does not forgive. «Is it that my sin cannot be forgiven?» is the agonizing question that terrifies some people What sins cannot be forgiven?
One day, some scribes went to Jesus and, seeing all the miracles He was making, began to say that they were made in Satan’s name. In this context, Jesus said to them, «Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness» (Mark 3:28,29). All sins can be forgiven! What a gift from God! However, the sin against the Holy Spirit, that which consists of willingly attributing Co Satan the work of the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness. Not because God does not want to forgive but because through the medium of His Spirit that God works upon the human heart; and when men willfully reject the Spirit and declare it to be from Satan, they cut off the channel by which God can communicate with them.» (Counsels for the Church, ch. 11, p. 81).
There are even more sins that God would not forgive. Just as He did not forgive the angels who sinned, the ancient world or the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, He will not forgive the sins of those who have not repented. The Bible says He will not forgive the sins of those who do not forgive their neighbor, «But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses» (Matt. 6: 15).
Are you worried thinking that your sin, perhaps, will not be forgiven? You can still fall on your knees helpless before God, and bring Him your worries and cry to the Lord, «If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared»‘ (Ps. 130:3-4). Now look at the Cross and contemplate on the crucified Christ. He gave His life to grant you forgiveness for all your sins. If you take a closer look, you will see that His hand outstretched.
