«Commit to the Lord whatever you he will establish your plans»
(Proverbs 16:3 NIV).
NO, NOT COLPORTEURING! Anything but colporteuring!» said Ruth to her friend, who proposed traveling to Chile from Peru in order to make some money.
» Don’t worry,» said her friend; «we enter the country with the colporteurs and once there we look for another job.» That is how she convinced her. At the end of high school, Ruth, needing money to study nursing, had traveled to Ecuador to be a colporteur, but failed to reach her goal because she got sick. She had promised herself never to return to being a colporteur and sought work at a bakery. It was at the bakery where she became friends with the young Chilean girl who now invited her to her country.
Both embarked on the adventure and when they arrived at the border, they received the first bad news: her friend had remained in Peruvian territory longer than allowed. She had to pay one hundred and twenty dollars as a fine to get out of the country. But she did not have that much money! Ruth began to pray and in an instant the situation was resolved: the agent said to her, «With ten dollars I will let her through.»
They still had to enter Chile, and Ruth had heard that many Peruvians were being deported. She didn’t have a passport, just her identification card. The bus driver heard them talking and offered to resolve the situation in exchange for money, but they preferred to pray.»Lord, may Your will be done,» they said, and they headed toward the agents. Her friend went through without any problems, because she was Chilean, but Ruth was subjected to an interrogation: «Where are you going? What are you going to do there?» «l am a student,» said Ruth.
Where are your papers?’ replied the agent. Ruth had none, not even a pass-
port. But she had an information leaflet for being a colporteur with the name Of a university on it. agent saw it and said, «Are you going to the Adventist university? Go on through.» Permission granted.
Ruth was unaware of God’s plans. Lord wanted her to be a colporteur in Chile. Ruth is now a nurse, and she obtained her bachelor’s degree by selling books that contain the message of salvation.» ‘For I know the plans
I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future»‘ (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV). What we need is to fully trust that this is the case. «In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps» (Proverbs 16;9, NIV).
