«Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey» (Zechariah 9:9).
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!» Shout for joy, daughter of Jerusalem! Have you ever thought of good news that can cause a huge ruckus? What happens to be the reason of such great joy? «Behold, your King is coming to you.» Imagine the thousands of people who, throughout times past have died searching for a God whom they could please. Think about those who tried to appease their consciences by doing many good works to earn the favor of Heaven. Imagine those tribes who danced around the fire, performing through rituals, sacrifices or self-flagellations to invoke a supreme power to listen to their cry and show consideration for their needs. Think of every one of those who travel long distances, on their knees or barefoot, bruising their bodies with the eager purpose of being heard by their motionless saints. Many religions believe that their followers should display accomplishments and endeavors and do good works and make personal sacrifices in order to impress their deities and receive favors from them. Meanwhile, those cold and distant gods seems to wait until the height of their brokenness in order to finally take action. Is this the god that the Holy Scriptures present?
In the Garden of Eden, our first parents hid behind the bushes because of the result of their disobedience. Naked and frightened, they hid behind the plants in the field. They did not ask for forgiveness. Instead, they justified their own mistakes and blamed each other for the loss of innocence. Even there, they did not have the initiative to fix the situation. Rather, a familiar and ardent voice reached out to help them.
«Behold, your King is coming to you,» said the prophet Zechariah. Is this not good news? Just behold because He is coming to you. Are you anxiously searching for an unattainable God? When the night comes, do you feel that your efforts are not enough to even grab His attention? The Bible says that your King will come to you. He is the one looking for His sheep, including the lost ones. Hanging on the cross of Calvary, He showed that he was able to clear away your doubts about His love. You can trust Him.
Today, you can rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
«Behold, your King is coming to you, He is just and having salvation.”
