IN MARCH 13, 1991, on one of the most traveled highways in Great Britain, a terrible accident took place, Ten people died, but the lives of many others were saved thanks to the action of a man who was considered a hero. Alan Bateman, who had been one of the first involved in the crash, realized the gravity of the situation and immediately got out of his damaged car and began to run along the highway, warning all the drivers that they were getting dose to the collision site. In doing so, he made them slow down and avoid being part of that accident. Many people felt bothered by Alan’s warning, and even honked loudly at him to leave the highway and allow them to continue on their way. Not all of them appreciated his sacrifice, because they had their own agendas in their minds, which made them remain oblivious to the scene they were living in reality.
What Alan Bateman did has a very simple explanation: it is called an act of love. However, not everyone knows how to interpret what is before them, and many are even bothered by love. This is what happens to us with Jesus. His entire life was an act of love, and many of His words were warnings so that we might avoid the harm toward which we are headed. Only the one who cares about you warns you; and Jesus never stops doing that. He has given us warnings like the following:
«Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees» (Matthew 16:6), that is, of hypocrisy.
«Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it; (Matthew 7:13); in other words, continue on the path of the gospel even though you may be unpopular because of it.
«Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fid’ (Matthew 7:19); therefore, give good fruit through a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
«But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell.
And great was its fall» (Matthew 7:26, 27).
Avoid disaster in your life by following the warnings of Jesus.
«Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire» (Matthew 7:19).
