PUZZLING ACTIONS
Q: I’m eleven and have only a few friends. Now two of them won’t even speak to me. I ask them why, but they just walk away. How can I get people to like me?
A: Your friends’ actions must be very puzzling. Since they o won’t talk, try writing each one a little note. Say that you want to be friends. Ask if you’ve done anything to offend them. Express your feelings clearly. Say, «It really bothers me when you walk away and won’t talk to me.» Suggest that the three of you get together so you can work things out. Or better yet, invite them over to your house for pizza and games.
Try not to show anger or have an accusing or blaming attitude. That would only make things worse. And remember that no matter how nice we are, not everyone will like us. But if you are kind and friendly, have a pleasant attitude, look for opportunities to help others, show an interest in people, and love and accept them for who they are, others will be drawn toward you. That’s a promise!
