Mr. Dezbor was a nervous wreck. After all, it isn’t every day that the queen of England visits your store.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip had come to America on royal business. As their stay drew to a close, the queen made a request. She’d like to visit a large supermarket in the city. That’s when officials contacted Mr. Dezbor, manager of just such an establishment.
The man sprung into action, tidying up the aisles, making sure his check-out servers were in place, the counters scrubbed, and the bakery displaying its best-smelling products.
Rows of police officers took up positions around the market as the limousine arrived. Out stepped the royal couple. They had a marvelous time going up and down the aisles, seeing how Americans did their shopping and what types of products lined the shelves. The queen even chatted with a few surprised shoppers.
When the visit ended, Mr. Dezbor and his crew breathed a happy sigh of relief. All had gone well. However, one person wasn’t happy with the visit. No sir! The store’s supervisor should have been there, welcoming the queen and prince, showing them around. But when called with the news of the upcoming royal visit, he didn’t believe it. «Quit kidding around,» he grumbled. «I’m far too busy to play your silly games.» Then he hung up. Only later did he discover his mistake.
Today voices shout, «The King of heaven is coming!» «Nah. You’re joking,» some respond.
«No, He’s really coming!» «Yeah, right. That’s a good one.» Juniors, it’s true. It’s really true!
