I SHALL YET PRAISE HIM
Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for once again I will praise him, since his presence saves me» (Psalm 42.•5, ISV).
I SHALL yet praise Him,» wrote the psalmist when his soul was downcast as he underwent trials by fire. %ere are many people who are able to find the path of praise even when difficult and real trials come to their lives. Others, however, get lost in their sadness and feel destroyed by discouragement. Allow me to tell you the story of a mother.
A baby had formed in this mother’s womb, but her little heart was not functioning well. The doctors had told the parents that it was almost impossible for the little girl to be able to survive. The Solano family rested in an attitude of prayer and praise. While the days of the pregnancy went by, they dedicated the waiting time to serving God: they formed a musical group that brought joy and inspiration to many people.
The nine months of the pregnancy passed by and the day of the birth of Gabriela Solano finally arrived. Unfortunately, what the doctors had anticipated took place: little Gabriela’s heart had not formed well; therefore, she would not be able to survive for very long. Her mother, filled with melancholy, gazed at a very tiny and angelic face with curls that were golden like the sun and rosy cheeks …oh, so tender. It did not seem true that the little light of her life would be put out and that there would be barely a memory left of her.
«Sweetie, you can rest now,» her mother said to her. «We have already met you and we will see you again in heaven.»
The day those brave parents buried their baby’s tiny little body, both, together, sang songs of praise to God with hope, repeating the experience of the psalmist David: «I shall yet praise Him.» It is one thing to say it and another to do it; they did it. The doctor told them they could not have more children, but Hilary was born months after her little sister passing. She is a beautiful baby, the gift that God gave the Solano Navarro family, and a new reason for them to continue praising the Lord.
Friend, if your soul is downcast and distraught, do not stop hoping in God. Praise His name because He is your salvation. Do not stop praising Him. If it is difficult for you to do it, ask Him to help you. We are all learning how to be Christians.
