«When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you» (Deuteronomy 20: 1).
BLANCA ROSA HAD suffered two ruptured aneurysms and had contracted bacterial meningitis which kept her in a hospital bed, intubated, when another bacteria attacked her: pseudomonas. This bacteria produces an infection in the lungs and her poor body could no longer generate an immune defense. By that time, her lungs were compromised and she was still alive thanks to the tracheotomy they had performed. The doctors had been clear with the family: «Do not harbor any hopes,» they had said to them. All that was left was to trust in God and they certainly did that.
While the life of this woman of only fifty-three years of age hung by a thread, Luis Gerardo prayed every day for her from the Adventist Radio station in Costa Rica. From all the corners of the country, people joined together in prayer for her, and her family received the encouragement they needed through the constant, sincere petitions for them. Those prayers went up to the eternal Father like sweet-smelling incense: «Heal her if it is Your will.» Two months later, the doctors did not understand how that bacteria that was supposedly «impossible to fight» had disappeared completely from Blanca Rosa’s fragile body.
First, Blanca Rosa opened an eye; then, she began to breathe on her own. Finally, she could eat by herself. Three months later, she left the hospital completely recovered.
Intercessory prayer networks are impressive. They promote that prayer of faith that goes to God believing that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him (see Hebrews 11:6). That prayer that does not seek to produce a change in the Lord, but in us, those who pray to Him. That persistent prayer that we humbly make. That prayer that seeks to have the will of God fulfilled above everything, but knows that the divine will is the well-being of His children and our witness of Him. Blanca Rosa is today a powerful witness of the power of our God.
When you go out to fight your enemies (disease, the cruel setbacks of life), remember to seek the Almighty in prayer first. Once you have done that, you will have banished every reason for fear, since you will have the power and strength of the Lord your God.
