«Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!» (Psalm 27:14).
A MOTHER WAS sobbing, her heart troubled every time she knelt down. She felt sad because of the memories of her son, whom she herself had presented before God in the church and had dedicated to His service when he was a boy. In fact, during his childhood, the little boy sang to Jesus in a way that was inspiring, and in addition, he had an incredible eloquence when preaching. Many expectations were placed on him as he, in his youth, decided to study theology to serve the Lord with his gift of preaching the gospel.
However, years went by, and that son, who now lived in a faraway country, called his mother by telephone to let her know that he had lost his faith. He did not want to return to the church that had seen him grow up and in which he had led so many souls to the feet of Jesus. As he communicated to his mother, all of that had died for him. Now, this young man who had once decided to be a pastor had abandoned his vocation and dedicated his free time to going to nightclubs and seeking «happiness» in decadence. He fell into bad habits that his mother could never have imagined; he began to drink alcohol and eat without any type of restrictions. Even his personal appearance had changed radically, and not for the better.
However, his mother never condemned or criticized him. She would simply say to him, «Son, I am praying for you. I love you.»
Not a single reproach left the lips of that mother. Her effort consisted in kneeling down. Years passed, and her son was once again on a platform of an Adventist church, showing his baptismal certificate with a big smile. Visibly moved, he said these words to the members: «I am here because my mother never criticized me, but wore out her knees for me. It is thanks to her and her persevering prayers that I found Jesus again.»
You can imagine the tears of all those present. Perhaps you are weeping now because you have a similar situation in your home. Take courage from the story of this mother. Have you already started praying for that son, or perhaps for your husband, friend, or relative whom you want to see once again in the Lord’s paths? It is a difficult and rough journey, but those who cling to God’s promises will be able to find encouragement in His presence and gain the victory.
