CAN WE COMMUNICATE WITH THE DEAD?
«Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil» (Proverbs 4:14).
INTEGRITY
When I was a teenager, I attended a renowned high school in the city. I remember someone suggesting it would be exciting to go to the cemetery at midnight, to play with a Ouija board. That was crazy! But some accepted the challenge. They were all doing it to have fun and find adventure, but they didn’t think about the consequences of their actions.
Through fun movies, interesting web pages, amusing games, popular TV pro. grams or attractive music, Satan seduces the minds of millions of young people by spreading the idea that death doesn’t exist and that it is possible to communicate with the dead. And many people fall for the bait and step into the dark world of the occult.
The answers to life’s great unknowns aren’t found with the dead. That’s why the Scriptures warn us, «Someone may say to you, ‘Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.’ But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark» (Isaiah 8:19, 20, NLT). The dead know nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:6). They can’t be conferred special Imowledge that rules the future of the living. All those ideas come from heathen religions of ancient times. As if that weren’t enough, magic and witchcraft can unleash powers of a mortal and demonic nature (Exodus 7:11, 12, 22; 8:7, 18, 19). Spiritualism is not a game. The power of evil is real, «For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places» (Ephesians 6:12).
Many young people have lost their lives by exploring the world of darkness. The consequences are extremely dangerous. The Bible gives a very important warning, «And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Those supposed spirits of the dead that allegedly appear in spiritualist sessions are actually demons dressed up as loved ones.
