Soon after my parents’ marriage ended, my mother, who’d been raised an Adventist, decided to go back to church.
After a few weeks my mom met a really nice, caring Christian man. They started to date and a year later got married. Mom had a new husband, and although I never thought I would feel that way, I was really happy to have a wonderful stepdad. I now live in an Adventist home, something I don’t think would have happened if my parents had stayed together.
Many times I wondered, «Why would God let us go through all that hurt and unhappiness?»
Then one day during school worship we read Romans 8:28: «All things work together for good to those who love God» (NKJV). This text really made a difference in my life.
Now, I don’t think divorce is God’s plan. In fact, I’m sure it isn’t. But now I realize that even though divorce isn’t God’s ideal plan, even a bad situation can work out for good.
I appreciate the blessings I enjoy being raised in an Adventist home, being able to go to an Adventist school, and having Christian friends. It is something good that God brought out of something bad. I have learned to look for the bright side of things and to wait for God to work things out for good.
I believe God brings blessings in disguise. What has come out of this has definitely shown evidence of God working in my life. It has helped me to realize how much He loves me. I’m so glad He does.
