GOD ASKS
“Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?” (Acts 8:30).
However, it all makes sense if we understand who God is and what His plan is, if we understand how He acts and how those who love and follow Him act.
All those who give books away, teach others to read, to enjoy good stories and value the innumerable benefits of getting in the habit of reading from childhood, not only open up the known world, but also provide tools to better understand God’s Word.
There are many today who don ‘t understand what they’re reading and are eager to meet someone who will remind them of the value of the most beautiful story ever told.
«This Ethiopian represented a large class who need to be taught by such missionaries as Philip—men who will hear the voice of God and go where He sends them… All over the world men and women are looking wistfully to heaven. Prayers and tears and inquiries go up from souls longing for light, for grace, for the Holy Spirit. Many are on the verge of the kingdom, waiting only to be gathered in. . . . Today angels will guide the footsteps of those workers who will allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify their tongues and refine and ennoble their hearts» (The Acts of the Apostles, ch. 11, p. 109).
How wonderful! God has a plan for each of His children. He not only carried it out on a desert road in Gaza, He can carry it out today!
Do you understand what you’re reading? Ask yourself that question and also be prepared to ask it to others.
